The current risk exposure to regulated entities such as savings institutions, banks, and credit unions, engaged in certain real estate lending activities, is largely unknown. In particular, institutions engaged in sub-prime lending and to a lesser degree, Alt-A lending, may have unacceptable exposure to credit risk. This risk may be from direct lending activities, or indirectly from activities such as warehouse lending or similar, early purchase facilities. In addition, other risk, such as counter party risks pertaining to reps and warranties of purchased loans may also be present.
Beyond, the above regulated industries, other regulatory bodies, such as state licensing agencies and bankruptcy trustees, may also have a need for outside expertise.
